Make the pain stop--there's more to it than a pain pill

What treatments work for osteoarthritis? Treatment programs for osteoarthritis need to be a comprehensive way-of-life.  While most people want the pain and stiffness to go away, it may take more than a bottle of pain pills.

The Arthritis Foundation has developed a “Self-Help Program”.  This is a group educational program which can be found through Regional offices of the Arthritis Foundation.  Through the “Self Help Program” group meetings, a person learns about his arthritis and how to better deal with it, while controlling the pain and discomfort.   Each person is encouraged to become an active participant in his health-care team.  This program teaches pain management techniques, helps a person develop an exercise program, and helps each individual deal with the problems he encounters due to arthritis.

For individuals who prefer the do-it-yourself method, the Arthritis Self-Help Book can be utilized.
