This I Believe

My niece Kim sent me a copy of This I Believe and I’m enjoying it.  These 500 word essays share life lessons.
I want to share a portion of the essay entitled “Time to Walk the Dog”
“I believe in walking the dog.  I also believe in flossing my teeth, practicing the piano, and eating five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, but these things can be ignored.  The dog stands in the doorway, polite but implacable, waiting for me to clip on his leash.  He couldn’t care less about my deadlines and duties.  He knows, and I know, that the walk is the thing.  Walking the dog is not aerobic exercise.  It’s a meander.” Dan Gediman (ed.), This I Believe, (Hoboken:  John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2011), 126.  Online website to book http://thisibelieve.org/shop/

I chuckle as I agree.  We’ve all seen people walk their dogs, stopping and sniffing.  I know people who include a dog in their home because they know the dog will force them to walk—and meander.

When is the last time you left behind your schedule, your stresses, your life responsibilities for a few minutes—and meandered?   I think it would be a great stress reliever.  Will you join me in adding to our lives –a meander?
