Safe food handling--cooking meat

How do you know when your hamburger is cooked enough to be safe?
Do you know the minimum temperature you should cook your meat to kill Listeria and other germs?
A beef steak is considered safe when its internal temperature reads 145OF.  What about a hamburger?  Will the same temperature work for a hamburger?  No.  A hamburger should be cooked to a temperature of 160OF.  Why?  A solid piece of meat is less likely to be contaminated with germs when compared with ground meat.  (Disgusting thought, isn’t it?)  By using a meat thermometer, the backyard chef can provide a safe meat for his friends and family.  The recommended temperature for cooking meats can be found at http://www.fsis.usda.gov/PDF/IsItDoneYet_Magnet.pdf
