Risk factors for osteoporosis continued



Risk factors we can change/control include: 
·        Cigarette smoking   Smoking increases your risk of osteoporosis.
·        Alcohol    Drinking heavily (3 or more drinks daily) can contribute to osteoporosis and fractured bones
·        Medications  Some prescription drugs can contribute to osteoporosis (long-term prednisone usage)
·        Early menopause.  Talk to your doctor about estrogen (or estrogen/progesterone) supplement to protect against osteoporosis
