Cousin's weekend

Sister Peggy and I hosted female cousins this past weekend.  Four cousins drove from Kansas City, St Louis, Malden, Missouri and one from Mississippi to spend time together.  We laughed together; I heard stories new to me as we talked about grandparents, aunts and uncles and our parents.  We shed a few tears as we talked about memories of loved ones gone.
As one cousin mentioned, this time together grounded us; we were reminded who we are and what our family means to us.  Another comment made:  isn’t that all we leave behind when we die?  When we die, our house will no longer matter; what color lipstick we have in our vanity will be irrelevant.  The relationships we have built and the time and energy we invest in teaching the young generation is our legacy.
Thanks ladies for taking the time and making the effort.  It was our first cousin’s weekend; let us be sure it is not our last.  I enjoyed it a lot.
