In the News—Outbreak of cyclospora
Recent news articles have reported
people getting sick from cyclospora. Cyclospora
(cyclosporiasis) infection is caused by a parasite found in contaminated food
and water. The recent outbreak began in
June 2013 and has made several hundred (400) people miserable and ill. The first people to become ill with the
cyclospora infection had not been abroad.
Our public water supplies in America are safe to drink. So where did those people get parasite-contaminated
food? The authorities believe the
culprit is a lettuce/salad mixture. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-204_162-57596205/bagged-salad-eyed-as-source-of-cyclospora-outbreak/ Currently this
outbreak has affected people in 16 states. Next time I give more information
about the cyclospora infection.
