How to protect yourself from toenail fungus

Wear flip-flops or sandals in public showers, nail salons, and locker rooms.
Always dry your feet well, especially between your toes.  Remember, fungi love moist spaces.
If someone in your family has a toenail fungus, take them to a podiatrist/medical doctor for treatment.  Ask the best way to protect yourself and other loved ones from this contagious infection. Should linen (such as towels, bed linen) and nail care tools be disinfected?  What’s the best way to accomplish this disinfection? Wash your hands after touching infected nails; toenail fungus is contagious.

My podiatrist sources recommend that you take your own nail polish, including base coat and top coat to the salon and have the staff use your polish products.  (Think about it—do you really want to put that pretty pink nail polish on your toes --after it has been used on how many people, some of which may have contagious toenail fungus?   I had not thought about this tip until the podiatrist mentioned it.  I am passing this great advice on to you:  buy and take your own nail polish, base coat and top coat for use on your toenails.
