Do you know about toenail fungus?

Spring arrived; women start wearing their sandals and painting their toenails.  Do we dare discuss an icky (but needed) topic?  Nail fungus.

Beware of nail fungus.  While nail fungus can affect both fingernails and toenails, the toenails are affected more often because they are not exposed to air and light as much as fingernails.  Also toe nails get less blood supply (at the end of the feet) when compared to the fingers.  This decreased blood circulation hampers the body’s defense system which fights infection.
Toenail fungus (onychomycosis, pronounced as on-i-ko-mi-KO-sis) is a contagious and growing problem.  I’ve talked to podiatrists and gotten some information you should know.  First let’s talk about the problem:  fungus.  Fungi (plural for fungus) thrive in warm, dark, moist places.  A person can get fungus at your local gym, shower stalls and swimming pools.  Fungus is contagious and can be passed around in your family.  http://www.nailandtoe.com/blog/how-to-prevent-fungus-infection/#more-101
