Risk factors we can change/control include:

Cigarette smoking Smoking increases your risk of osteoporosis.

Alcohol
Drinking heavily (3 or more drinks daily) can contribute to osteoporosis
and fractured bones

Medications
Some prescription drugs can contribute to osteoporosis (long-term prednisone
usage)
·
Early menopause.
Talk to your doctor about estrogen (or estrogen/progesterone) supplement
to protect against osteoporosis
