This holiday season I am reading the
book, Thanks! How Practicing Gratitude Can Make you Happier
By Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D. Dr Emmons, a psychologist and professor at
University of California Davis, shares
information about gratitude. What is gratitude? My Webster’s New World Dictionary defines
gratitude as “thankful appreciation for favors or benefits received.” Of course, we can be thankful for shiny new
presents we will receive in a few weeks.
But is there more to gratitude than this?
Benedictine monk and teacher on the
subject of gratitude,
Brother David Steindl-Rast says, “gratefulness is the key
to a happy
life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then
no matter how much we have, we will not be happy—because we
will always want to
have something else or something more.”

Who among us doesn’t want to be
happy? Join me this holiday season as we
learn about gratitude.
