Local and family Easter traditions

Currently local traditions in Missouri involve fried catfish dinners at Catholic churches/schools/Knights of Columbus organizations every Friday night during Lent until Holy Week.  People turn out in droves to enjoy these local feasts.
Easter Sunday dinner was one of Mom’s favorite family dinners.  Our main entrĂ©e was ham baked with pineapple and brown sugar on top.  This feast included favorites such as green bean casserole, baked sweet potatoes, deviled eggs, baked beans, baked dinner rolls and angel food cake.
David’s memories include the baskets of colorful hard-boiled eggs which he and his siblings got to find in their yard.  Their Easter celebration continued with the family trip to church, everyone dressed in new clothes.  It was no small feat to get seven children dressed in their finest and out the door for church.  David also remembers that they all donated some of their newly-found Easter eggs for Easter Sunday’s dinner.  Their mom used the eggs in potato salad and deviled eggs for their Easter feast.
My family’s traditions involved going to church in our new Easter clothes.  Many years of my life I have been a choir member singing the Easter cantata, praising God for Jesus’ death and resurrection to buy my salvation from sin.  This is the true meaning of Easter; forgiveness and a promise of an eternal home in heaven.
