Gratitude in different religions

Gratitude finds a home in many religions. “Where one finds

religion, one finds gratitude.  As long as people have believed in

God, they have sought ways to express gratitude and thanksgiving

to this God, the Ultimate giver.”  Emmons, Robert A., Thanks!  How Practicing Gratitude Can Make You Happier, (Boston:  Houghton Mifflin Co., 2007), 93.

The story of the Jewish faith told through the Old Testament offers

many traditions and prayers which include gratitude. Thankfulness

for everything is appropriate in Judaism because all things come

from God in the Hebrew worldview, and Jewish life is filled with

thankfulness.”   Emmons, Robert A., Thanks!  How Practicing Gratitude Can Make You Happier, (Boston:  Houghton Mifflin Co, 2007), 96.

The Christian faith overflows with scriptures and prayers of

gratitude.  “Understanding God to be the giver of all gifts and the

ultimate foundation for thankfulness, Christians gratefully

acknowledge their dependence on him and rejoice in the gifts that

only he provides.” Emmons, Robert A., Thanks!  How Practicing Gratitude Can Make You Happier, (Boston:  Houghton Mifflin Co, 2007), 97.
